Follow-up to the Global All Star Webinar: “IP Management and Digitalization”

Worldwide the number of patent applications surges, with China recently overtaking the USA. Especially digital applications are more and more patented by global companies but also SMEs. Therefore, it becomes increasingly important to learn how to patent use cases, user and customer journeys, apps, and digital business models. This was also the key question of the global webinar hosted by the IPR SME Helpdesks on 08.07.2020: How must digital objects be designed to be IP protectable? The webinar in English was a cooperation between the European IP Helpdesk, CEIPI, the International IPR SME Helpdesks (SEA/CHINA/LA) and the EU-Japan Technology Transfer Helpdesk.

In the webinar, the successful methods of IP-Management and IP-Design were demonstrated using best practice examples. Examples of AI-based advertising with Mirriad and the digitization of sales processes at Thyssenkrupp were shown. The targeted generation and use of IP in digital business models was motivated with the Hilti and Heraeus Amloy case studies. You can find further examples of successful IP management and IP design, as taught at CEIPI and with the EPO in Dublin, here.

Worldwide participants registered for the webinar to learn about the modern practices of IP-management. The participants were representatives of small and medium enterprises, but also patent attorneys and representatives of public organizations, as well as technology transfer offices (TTO), who received an overview of the state of IP-Management. Lecturer was Dr. Alexander J. Wurzer, Professor of IP Management at CEIPI, University of Strasbourg, and Head of IP Management Education.
