Follow-up to the webinar with University College Dublin: „ Intellectual Property and the Digital Economy“

At least one third of all inventions are digital, according to data from the European Patent Office. Therefore, it becomes increasingly important to learn how to patent digital business objects from use cases, user and customer journeys to apps and digital business models. Especially SMEs and start-ups can increase their competitiveness with the use of apps and IP protected business models. The best practice from the European industry was presented by Prof. Dr. Alexander Wurzer, CEIPI University of Strasbourg, in a webinar hosted by University College Dublin (Nova UCD) on Friday 05.06. The topics were discussed in a case study about individualized mineral water and the German innovation award winner 2020 LUQEL.

In the webinar, the successful methods of IP-Management and IP-Design were demonstrated using best practice examples. Examples of AI-based advertising with Mirriad and the digitization of sales processes at Thyssenkrupp were shown. The targeted generation and use of IP in digital business models was motivated with the Hilti and Heraeus Amloy case studies. You can find further examples of successful IP management and IP design, as taught at CEIPI and with the EPO in Dublin, here.

Over 200 participants registered for the webinar from all over Ireland. The participants were representatives of small and medium enterprises, but also patent attorneys and representatives of public organizations, as well as technology transfer offices (TTO), who received an overview of the state of IP-Management. Lecturer was Dr. Alexander J. Wurzer, Professor of IP Management at CEIPI, University of Strasbourg, and Head of IP Management Education.
