New University Diploma in Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property at CEIPI

In February 2020 the new University Diploma “Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property” will start at CEIPI, University of Strasbourg. It addresses one of the biggest challenges for industry and IP as well: AI. As Andrew Ng stated it: “AI is the new electricity. I can hardly imagine an industry which is not going to be transformed by AI.” This has also an influence on the patent activities of big technology companies. As the current WIPO report on AI shows the number of AI based patent applications increases everywhere around the world, especially in the USA and China, but also in Germany. AI based patents are applied for technologies, like machine learning, logic programming and fuzzy logic and applied in areas as computer vision, natural language and speech processing, robotics and planning and scheduling. The most important application fields for AI are transportation, telecommunications, life and material sciences.

The University diploma course is dedicated to IP professionals who want to explore the new challenges of AI technology. Unlike other courses on new digital technologies and IP, this course is focusing on AI and will teach the participants not only the legal perspective but also the technological facts about AI. So, the first of 5 modules will only address the questions of AI programming with practical exercises, where the participants learn to program AI codes and get firsthand experiences with the possibilities and limitations of AI technology.

The University diploma “Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property” stands in the tradition of CEIPI to address the challenges of AI and IP. CEIPI activities range from the Executive Management Days on AI-based Business Models and the advanced training programs on AI and IP to the theses about “Patent strategies for AI technologies” and “AI-based third-party rights analysis for digital business models” of MIPLM graduates.

Details on the application and costs of diploma can be found on the flyer and the CEIPI webpage.

The application deadline is 20 January 2020.
